Self-love is humble. Self-love knows that God determines our value and our worth. Like a $100 bill that retains its value despite being stepped on, mashed in the mud, crumbled, torn, and taped back together, our value and worth in God are never diminished by hard times, criticism, trauma, and drama.
Arrogance is a crippling condition of the spirit. If we love others in the way that we love ourselves, then scoffing, deriding, and putting others down is merely a reflection of our beliefs about ourselves.
Behaving as if we are better than or more important than another stems from not understanding this simple truth: we ARE value no matter our social standing, financial wealth, possessions, degrees, career, designer labels, looks, physique, marital status, mistakes, upbringing, or life experiences.
Value is not something that we possess. Value is something that we are. Value is a state of being that cannot be earned or bought, lost or taken away.

Self-Love Affirmation
Just for today, I love myself by celebrating my unique journey. I grow stronger in every valley. I grow wiser on top of every mountain. I am exactly where I am supposed to be. I am becoming all God created me to be. I love you, [your name here]!
Open and Receive:
- Stand in front of a mirror.
- Look into your eyes.
- Say the affirmation aloud.
- Repeat several times throughout the day.
It may feel strange, but keep trying! Let the truth set you free.

5 Minute Fill-Up
When we find ourselves with more than the next person, the temptation to view ourselves as better than the next person rears its ugly head. We must always remember that every good gift, every opportunity, every win is only made possible by God opening that door and setting us on that path.
Yes, we put in the hard work, are responsible with our finances, and make good choices but those are simply actions of a good steward over the opportunities that God provides. Keep your abundance (in whatever area) in perspective. It’s the God in you! It’s God’s blessing. It’s God’s unmerited favor.
Be a witness and testify. Crank it loud and sing it proud!

Self-Love Nightcap
I never thought of myself as conceited or arrogant. Imagine my surprise when God showed me differently. He has led me into certain situations to (1) correct me and (2) mature me.
I can recall being between jobs, certain that I would find another, and taking comfort in my savings. After the weeks dragged into months and the savings finally vanished, it was only in that moment that I realized my arrogance. I had subconsciously looked down upon people who found themselves in situations without a savings. “I would never do that. I am so responsible…” as if to imply that others are irresponsible? Well, I learned and learned very clearly the narrow view I held of others’ life experiences.
At the root of it all was a desperate attempt to feel better about my own perceived “failings” by finding ways in which others “failed” worse. I could not love and accept others unconditionally because I could not love and accept myself unconditionally. Self-love is foundational to receiving and giving love in a healthy manner.
